About my teaching:
My teaching centers on rigorous questioning: I believe that literary texts are sites for inquiry, offering opportunities for us to challenge our thinking through the exchange of ideas. My goal as a teacher is to equip students to explore and answer their own uncertainties and communicate what stimulates their curiosity.
The approach I apply to my research—my attention to formal play in specific social and political contexts—is central to what I bring to the classroom. My courses encourage close reading and analysis that considers context. If you visit my classroom, you'll see a mix of discussion and conversation augmented by brief lectures and student-led research to facilitate a lively exchange of ideas. In addition, many of the classes I teach feature activities inviting students to experience literature as a craft, creative opportunities that respond to our readings and testing out techniques and ideas as we learn about them.
